DESIGN APPROACH
When designing an interior, Janelle feels that a personal and studied approach is not only preferable- but absolutely necessary. She takes time to learn about her clients: how they will be using their space, special requirements, their thoughts regarding style, quality & performance, and their overall expectations for the project. Along with specific requirements and preferences, Janelle considers the architectural style of a house and skillfully brings that same design integrity through to the interior for a seamless, classic and timeless look. Her primary mission is to design and tastefully select elements that elevate and harmonize function and style within the framework of her cleint’s chosen architectural style, budget and lifestyle.
Janelle mixes classic and historic elements with contemporary sensibilities for a refined yet comfortable home. Each layer works in unison to create an aesthetically pleasing and enduring design that lives in harmony with the architecture. She addresses the architectural details then skillfully addresses every layer of design- yielding a truly holistic interior with a long lifespan. Janelle’s goal is to design interior spaces that last one to two decades, if not longer. This is accomplished by truly listening to the client in order to portray them in the design, considering the architecture, addressing as much of an entire home as possible, and choosing quality materials.
BUSINESS APPROACH
Janelle values selecting the most appropriate products, fixtures, finishes and furnishings that are project specific in regards to both style and budget. For this reason, she doesn’t work with vendors that require sales quotas, she does not maintain a large corporate overhead and she does not carry inventory. Everything is specially acquired and custom designed for your project.
JSD’s Project load is kept at the boutique level in order to ensure Janelle’s involvement on all levels and to ensure your project, and all of its details, are tended to with appropriate speed and accuracy. She is committed to a high standard of client services which includes prompt responses, open communication, offering clients their prefered method of fee structure, flexible payment options, promptness for appointments, and a general code of professional conduct and safeguarding her client’s privacy.
Janelle values professional and ethical business relationships and respects the standards set forth by the architecture and interior design professions. It is her policy to work on a formal agreement for each and every project. Establishing fees, terms & conditions, and the responsibilities of both parties sets the foundation for communication and expectations. She visits the budget and business formalities early in the project as both a matter of good business practice and to ensure both parties can openly engage in a rewarding design process thereafter.
Janelle values quality and workmanship, knowing that interior design is an investment both in your everyday quality of life and in the value of your house. Short cuts and quick fixes are shortsighted and end up costing more in the end. As the old saying goes- “buy cheap, pay twice”. For this reason, she only recommends and prefers to collaborate with licensed and insured laborers who have demonstrated excellence in their trade.
